Have to post this before the Katy Perry performance

First impressions are important when it comes to advertising (according to me) so I am writing this blog as I watch the Superbowl (eat nachos and drink beer.)

To preface this, I want to say the most effective commercials to me are ones that have a compelling message that pertain to the company (or just insanely hilarious).

So the Budweiser commercial with the puppy and the horses is one of my least favorite so far. One reason is that my roommates ooh-ed and aww-ed over it trying to prove the loudest was the biggest dog fan. 95% of the population loves dogs. Shut up. The second reason is that the Budweiser message was pretty lame. The “coming home” theme was weak, and employing baby animals in your ads is a cop-out for actually being creative or innovative.

My favorite commercial so far is the Nationwide commercial. It’s tragically effective. A total mood-killer but it’s got a message: accidental deaths aren’t common. And this commercial should make you feel sad – because it is sad. But sad things need attention too.

Those are the two commercials that have stuck out the most to me so far. The avocado commercial was hilarious and appealed to white girls everywhere (it’s a statistical fact that whites love avocados).
